Media Gateway Controller-8

The Nokia Media Gateway Controller-8 (MGC-8) provides media gateway controller functions for both TDM and IMS/NGN networks. This product lets service providers migrate seamlessly from legacy TDM, to VoIP, to converged IMS on a single platform.

The MGC-8 delivers a full range of access/toll-tandem services and protocols. Functions include any-to-any switching, such as TDM-to-TDM, TDM-to-IP and IP-to-IP.

Service providers can integrate the signaling gateway functionality within the same chassis. The MGC-8 supports four key applications:

  • NGN Class 4 local, access, and toll-tandems
  • CDMA/GSM Gateway MSC (GMSC)
  • IMS Media Gateway Control Function (MGCF)
  • Interconnection Border Control (IBCF)

  • Simplifies and drives cost efficiencies for migration from legacy PSTN to IP communications
  • Delivers carrier-grade reliability and performance
  • Assures multivendor interoperability

  • Any-to-any switching and direct TDM-to-TDM switching with no added latency for network growth
  • Supports legacy protocols and interfaces with interworking to IP
  • Flexible, scalable architecture with signaling and control available in the same chassis
  • Fault-tolerant, fully redundant hardware
  • Active-active and active-standby geographic redundancy available
  • In-service software upgrades with no loss of active calls and billing records
  • Open interfaces and protocols
  • Industry standards-compliant interfaces
  • Third-party verification of SS7 interfaces
