ALCATEL-LUCENT’S IP PORTFOLIO SELECTED BY CHINA MOBILE AND CHINA UNICOM TO MEET HIGH-TRAFFIC DATA DEMANDS IN CHINA

Alcatel-Lucent has announced two key customer wins for its IP portfolio in China, the world’s largest market for mobile users. The first announcement details Alcatel-Lucent’s deployment of the powerful, energy-efficient and cost-saving 7950 XRS IP Core Router in China Mobile’s CMNET, the operator’s national IP backbone network serving the world’s largest subscriber base and metro networks. The deployment will enable China Mobile to meet growing ultra-broadband access demand from 820 million subscribers over the next decade. Alcatel-Lucent’s IP routing technology will also provide a flexible, intelligent network allowing China Mobile to meet its goals under the National China Broadband China plan, while delivering high-capacity scalable business and residential services.

Alcatel-Lucent has also announced the expanded deployment of its 7950 XRS IP Core Router with China Unicom to meet high-traffic demand in nine Chinese cities, while enabling the operator to prepare its network for continuing high data growth. The 7950 XRS will be deployed in nine cities within the Jiangsu, Shandong, Jiangxi, Qinghai and Inner Mongolia provinces. This will also provide China Unicom with a more flexible, intelligent network that offers the scalability and capacity to meet future traffic demands, allowing it to deliver on the goals of the National China Broadband Plan.

ALCATEL-LUCENT SIGNS AGREEMENTS WITH RED HAT, ADVANTECH AND 6WIND TO ACCELERATE DELIVERY OF VIRTUALIZED RADIO ACCESS NETWORKS

Alcatel-Lucent has expanded the ecosystem of its virtualized radio access networks (vRAN) by signing collaboration agreements with key industry companies, Red Hat, Advantech and 6WIND.

The agreements will add best-in-class surround components to Alcatel-Lucent’s virtualized Radio Access Network technology to make it “telco-ready” in preparation for commercialization. This announcement builds upon a previous agreement with Intel and shows momentum for the vRAN program going into 2016, setting the stage for further virtualization of Alcatel-Lucent’s Wireless portfolio. Alcatel-Lucent is currently trialling the vRAN with Tier 1 operators in Europe, APAC, and North America.

Alcatel-Lucent and Bluesky Pacific Group launch new submarine cable system to enhance connectivity across Pacific

Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks will roll out a new undersea cable system, Moana Cable, spanning more than 9,700 km across the Pacific and linking New Zealand, Hawaii, the Cook Islands and Samoa.

With completion scheduled for 2018, the system will use the latest submarine cable technology, providing much-needed capacity and redundancy in the region to address increased traffic requirements as mobile broadband and the provision of fiber access to homes and businesses take center stage in the region. The system will be split into two segments, with the New Zealand-Hawaii section serving Samoa and American Samoa while also significantly enhancing route diversity for New Zealand, and the second segment will connect the Cook Islands to the Samoa hub.
