ALCATEL-LUCENT IP TECHNOLOGY TO TRANSFORM TELEFÓNICA’S FIXED AND MOBILE NETWORKS
Alcatel-Lucent is to transform Telefónica’s fixed and mobile networks with its IP technology and services expertise to meet growing consumption of data and video by its customers. In a three-year global project called ‘Fusión Red IP’, Telefónica will deploy Alcatel-Lucent's IP Routing portfolio in order to drive simplification into its network.
The network design will collapse the traditional eight network layers into just four. Alcatel-Lucent will also employ its leading services expertise for the project including installation and commissioning, systems integration and migration of current services to the new network architecture.
This project follows a recently-announced extension of a collaboration agreement with Telefónica to test NFV functions, following outstanding lab test results achieved by the Alcatel-Lucent Virtualized Service Router.
CHINA MOBILE DEPLOYS ALCATEL-LUCENT RAPPORT COMMUNICATIONS SOFTWARE
China Mobile is to deploy Alcatel-Lucent’s Rapport™ communications software to simplify and consolidate video, voice and messaging services onto a single platform. As a result of the deployment, China Mobile will be able to offer high-quality, high-definition VoLTE (voice over LTE) services for the first time in China, paving the way for future cloud-based services.
This deployment follows the signing of a comprehensive frame agreement in June 2015 for the delivery of ultra-broadband access, IP networking and NFV technologies.
This announcement illustrates the growing momentum for our Rapport communications software launched earlier this year, which has already been deployed with service providers including KPN in the Netherlands.
Watch the following video and learn how the Rapport platform can help service providers dramatically simplify their networks, add new services like IP messaging and create new revenue streams.
ALCATEL-LUCENT DRIVES 5G DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS TOWARD ITS NETWORK 2020 VISION
5GNOW, a 5G communications research project supported by European Commission, with technical leadership from Alcatel-Lucent and overall coordination by the prestigious Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute has been awarded the highest scientific excellence honor by the European Commission for advancing development of the next generation of mobile networks and strengthening European competitiveness.
The project, initiated in 2012, was completed this month and delivered a big step towards toward achieving 5G networks. The 5GNOW program has identified recommendations for how the number of devices connected to a network can be increased by 100 times over what be supported today and for a network can be made to react 50 times faster. This will enable smart cities, smart manufacturing, and Internet-of Things-enabled environments to have wireless enabled sensors that can all connect to the network in real time without having to schedule the delivery of their traffic.
In addition to the 5GNOW project, for several years Alcatel-Lucent and its industrial research arm Bell Labs have been active in a range of key research initiatives with several universities, industry stakeholders, standards bodies and industry consortia. Recent examples include work with the Technische Universität (TU) Dresden's 5G Lab and collaborations with Korea Telecom and NTT DOCOMO.
Mobile network security for 4G/LTE and Wi-Fi - Product Marketing Manager David Nowoswiat and Mobile Solution Architect Pierre-Andre Foriel discuss how mobile network security is rapidly becoming a critical issue for operators as they transform their cellular networks to 4G/LTE while adding small cells and Wi-Fi® access to boost capacity and increase coverage.
