Industry-first 100G/200G line card receives 4.5 rating from experts in Lightwave’s Optical Subsystem category

The 1830 PSS 100G/200G line card received a 4.5 rating out of possible 5 from an independent panel of industry experts. Those experts represent organizations including the Fiber Optic Association, Current Analysis, LightCounting, Ovum, Verizon, and Cabling Installation & Maintenance magazine. This high score recognizes the 100G/200G card as a “superb product that sets new standards for performance and provides groundbreaking and new technical milestones."

“The new module is the first to provide 200G transport in the same package as 100G. It saves cost, space, and power for metro/regional applications. This is important for metro operators as traffic demand and demand for 100G client interfaces are increasing,” the judges said in an official statement about the 100G/200G line card.

The 100G/200G single-carrier DWDM optical line card was introduced in September 2014. It lets service providers more than double the bandwidth capacity of their networks with the flip of a switch. The card plugs into our 1830 PSS platform to operate in either 100G or 200G mode. It offers a flexible network evolution path and meets ever-growing demands for high-bandwidth services such as streaming HD video and cloud computing.

The 100G/200G card has been deployed into the networks of 20 customers around the globe.

Technical details

  • Distance: Alcatel-Lucent’s 100G/200G single-carrier optical transport line card family allows data transmission over distances as far as 4,000 km in 100G mode and 1,000 km in 200G mode.
  • Capacity: The line card’s 200G mode allows for doubling the fiber capacity of the 100G mode from 8.8 Tbps (88 x 100G) to 17.6 Tbps (88 x 200G). Our flexible grid feature delivers a total system capacity of 24 Tbps.  The solution is backward-compatible with previous generations of our 100G DWDM solution.
  • Flexibility: The 100G/200G line card uses the 200G-ready 1830 PSS and the 400G Photonic Service Engine (PSE), thereby laying the foundation for a smooth evolution to 400G capacity and speeds in the future.
