Open is the new cloud model
Driving business with openness
The way in which applications, networks and services will be built in the future is changing rapidly. The new era of the cloud is built on openness, where we work with third parties yet still take full responsibility for the end-to-end solutions we deliver. Collaboration is the most effective way to accelerate innovation, and openness is a guiding principle in a complex environment where customers, collaborators and communities interact.
Accelerating innovation with open source
The technological transition from combined hardware/software products towards software-only solutions is unlocking innovation in the telecommunications industry. In this context, open source is an essential tool for accelerating innovation
Open ecosystems and open source are the enablers of innovation and co-creation. Nokia integrates the innovations coming out of open source communities into products, contributes to those communities, and provides services and support for our customers.
When it comes to open source in the telecommunications industry, Nokia has extensive experience dating back to Maemo, MeeGo, and the Symbian Foundation – including learnings on what works and what doesn’t. We have evaluated more than 20,000 open source components and have a strong internal open source governance structure in place.
Nokia is a founding member of Open Platform for NFV (OPNFV), Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP), OpenFastPath, and the Telecom Infra Project. We have a substantial presence in OpenStack, such as initiating project Vitrage for root cause analysis, as well as project leadership in Mistral and Vitrage. We are also a platinum member of the Open Compute Project.
