The annual results are traditionally the occasion to look back on the past year, analyze successes and failures and sketch out the shape the future should take. Our 2015 results are particularly significant in this respect: they are not only the culmination of the past year but the – successful -  outcome of two and a half years of effort, hard work and transformation, all carried out full tilt in the Shift Plan. And they not only shine a light on the past but also highlight what Alcatel-Lucent brings to the new Nokia Group, which it joined at the beginning of 2016.

In fact, according to our recent survey, 61% of healthcare organizations indicated that they are already employing cloud, with this number continuing to rise in 2016.

Over the past few years, we at Alcatel-Lucent have run NFV proofs-of-concept and trials with dozens of customers around the world and have worked with the 60+ members of the CloudBand Ecosystem Program on a wide variety of use cases. We’ve onboarded many a VNF, even from other major telco vendors. We believe we know a thing or two. When NIA and EANTC contacted us, we wondered if it was worthwhile to invest time and resources into yet another test event.

What a year 2015 has proven to be for the 90-years ‘young’ Bell Labs. From the Spring celebration of its eighth Nobel Prize winner with the inauguration of a garden to honor its awe-inspiring research tradition to the publishing of its first ever book providing  the industry at large with a blueprint for the future defined by the network becoming the digital fabric that will enable the ‘Automation of Everything’ (AoE).

Security is a concern across the IT environments of large enterprises, and recent large-scale data breaches have thrown the issue further into the spotlight. In our survey of 1500 senior IT decision makers, conducted by Penn Schoen Berland (PSB), the importance of security was a recurring theme that touched on nearly every aspect of the organization’s IT strategy.

When developers Taewoo Kim and Nick Khurana entered the Center for Social Innovation in New York City on Friday, November 6 at 6:00 pm, it was not only the first hackathon for both, but they had never even met each other.  Twenty-four hours and a lot of coding later, they left as the winning team splitting $2,500.

On November 23, the World Economic Forum published an open letter signed by 78 global CEOs pressing leaders at COP21 to achieve agreement on the actions necessary to create a sustainable future.  Along with my fellow signatories, I strongly believe that a combination of private enterprise and government efforts will be the most effective way to make the global changes necessary to mitigate the damage of carbon emissions. Delaying action is not an option.

Every day, millions of organizations across the globe rely on technology to get their jobs done. In fact, many industries from retail to finance have used technology to revolutionize them. Today, it is impossible to navigate life without a smartphone and a constant Internet connection– we even go so far as to expect the most current technology in our coffee shops and restaurants. So, it’s no surprise that as we continue to integrate technology into our daily lives, more and more industries are adapting to these new digital expectations.
