Latin America

Nokia is an industry leader in Latin America, with a large share of wallet and share of mind with all major incumbents in the region.

Nokia has unique credentials to enable customers to become leaders in LTE in the region, and continue to grow in 3G and 2G businesses, providing the best mobile experience to their subscribers. Our great positioning, outstanding portfolio, strong values, consultative approach and, more than anything else, superior professionals who are fully committed to ensure that our customers and their end users always have the best services, put us at the forefront of helping operators in Latin America to explore more value from each link to the telecommunications value chain.

Our market

Latin America is one of the most dynamic telecommunication's markets in the world, and Communication Services Providers in the region are monetized and aggressive players, whose businesses have been growing and getting far more complex, with higher demand for data services, the OTT services, increasing adoption of smartphones and tablets, LTE, etc., while being defied to make profit in markets with low ARPU and large prepaid user base.

Operators are inserted in a very competitive business and are eager to grow and capture more value from their end users by providing them with additional and better services. Nokia is prepared to fully support and  guide customers in facing the challenge of monetizing their networks and working on strategies for driving profitable growth.

The implementation of LTE in the region is opening windows of opportunities in the Latin America market. According to 4G Americas, the region is forecasted to reach 55 million LTE subscribers by 2017, and 82.4 million LTE connections by 2018, from the total of 1.7 million LTE connections at the end of 2013. The HSPA-LTE annual addition in 2013 totalized 76 million connections, a 65% annual growth.

ABI Research predicts the growth of 10% in mobile telecoms capital expenditure (CapEx) in Latin America in 2014, rising to $6.1 billion, driven mostly by upgrades and expansion of 3G WCDMA and 4G LTE coverage. Investment in small cell base stations is expected to reach $484 million in 2014, a 40% year-on-year growth.

Add to that equation the external drivers for growth that will also play a major role and present us with many more opportunities. Mega sport events in Brazil like the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, for example, will result in huge demands on infrastructure.
