Eva Elmstedt has been appointed to lead the services business at Nokia Siemens Networks, effective June 1, 2013. Elmstedt will report to CEO Rajeev Suri and join the company’s executive board. She will be based in Munich, Germany.

Nokia Siemens Networks is implementing the 4G, LTE (Long Term Evolution)* network for Movistar Chile operating in the 2.6 GHz frequency band. The contract covers the capital area, Greater Santiago, with close to six million inhabitants, as well as other cities such as Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. Nokia Siemens Networks is also expanding Movistar’s 3G network to meet the ever-increasing capacity needs of its mobile broadband customers.

LTE-A and small cell radio access development to be completed by 2015 with initial equipment capacity of 300 Mbps

Nokia Siemens Networks and Panasonic Mobile Communications Co. Ltd., a Panasonic group company, have been selected by NTT DOCOMO to develop next generation mobile broadband network architecture for LTE-A (long term evolution-advanced). As part of a multi-year agreement, the two companies will provide NTT DOCOMO with high-capacity base stations optimized for the requirements of LTE-A. These base stations will ensure initial equipment capacity of 300 Mbps (megabits per second) in the network and enable new cloud-based architecture and services. In addition, the two vendors will provide Remote Radio Head (RRH) to roll out small cells to enhance the coverage and capacity of the LTE-A network.

Nokia Siemens Networks is highlighting TD-LTE innovation at Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona. This includes a demonstration of data traffic offloading between TD-LTE and FDD-LTE* using the company’s Single RAN Advanced Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station and a commercially available dual-mode (FDD and TDD) end-user device. The demonstration, and the company’s commercial momentum in TD-LTE, will be highlighted by Rajeev Suri in a keynote address to the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) Summit on February 26, the second day of the Barcelona event.

Nokia Siemens Networks will highlight an extended small cell portfolio at Mobile World Congress 2013. This includes new Micro and Pico base stations for LTE and Wi-Fi, designed to complement standard base station capacity in hot zones - areas of high subscriber density. The new Micro and Pico bases stations can be integrated into the company’s Flexi Zone architecture that has been specifically designed to target mobile traffic hot zones.

Nokia Siemens Networks has appointed Samih Elhage as its chief financial officer. Elhage, who was previously the company’s chief operating officer, will continue to report to CEO Rajeev Suri as a member of the company’s Executive Board. Elhage replaces Marco Schroeter, who leaves Nokia Siemens Networks with immediate effect.

Nokia Siemens Networks is launching Smart Wi-Fi to seamlessly integrate wireless local area networks (WLAN) with cellular, mobile networks. Smart Wi-Fi comprises four elements that combine operator-controlled Wi-Fi and cellular services into a Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) with traffic steering capabilities. This allows operators to select the best wireless access technology to deliver a secure, convenient mobile broadband experience for customers.

Nokia Siemens Networks is the sole supplier of end-to-end network

Nokia Siemens Networks has been selected by DOCOMO PACIFIC, a subsidiary of the Japanese telecommunications operator NTT DOCOMO, as the sole supplier for an end-to-end 4G LTE* network. The network has enabled DOCOMO PACIFIC to provide a stronger mobile data offering for existing customers on the U.S. territory of Guam.
