Nokia Siemens Networks to reduce teams supporting WiMAX and GSM businesses acquired from Motorola Solutions

Press Statement
Espoo, Finland - June 28, 2011

Nokia Siemens Networks is taking steps to reduce the teams supporting the WiMAX and GSM businesses it acquired from Motorola Solutions. The reduction reflects lower demand for these products and services caused by the delay in closing the acquisition. Although the company aims to redeploy employees to higher growth areas, some redundancies are planned.

Nokia Siemens Networks is today sharing initial information with employees about its aim to redeploy more than 1200 people by shifting them to work on growth products and projects such as its industry-leading LTE and WCDMA businesses. The company also expects to reduce its overall global headcount by 1500.

The employees affected by the redeployment and redundancies are in the research and development, supply chain, sales, and service organizations related to the WiMAX and GSM business acquired from Motorola Solutions. Nokia Siemens Networks will continue to fulfill its contracts and service obligations to customers.

Nokia Siemens Networks will be working with employee representatives over the individual terms of restructuring and expects these efforts, along with its internal redeployment, to continue this year and into 2012. The company currently has approximately 70,000 employees.
